Fairhaven – João F. Claudio, Sr., 82, of Fairhaven died December 3, 2009 at Our Lady’s Haven. He was the widower of Maria L. (Baptista) Claudio.
Mr. Claudio was born in St. Michael, Azores, son of the late Manuel F. and Rosie S. (Silva) Claudio, and resided in the greater New Bedford area since 1963. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, New Bedford. He was the former owner/operator of Café Portugal and Café Mimo until his retirement in 1989. He had previously worked for Shawmut Mfg, New Bedford and was also a radio announcer on WRLM, Taunton in the mid 1970’s. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Lawrence Welk.
Survivors include 6 daughters: Adriana M. Carreiro of Fall River, M. Luisa Furtado and her husband Benny of Fairhaven, M. Fatima Pires and her husband Alvaro of the Azores, Rosa M. Diniz and her husband Frank of Cumberland, RI, Maria C. Borges of New Bedford, and Anna M. Dutra and her husband Manuel of New Bedford; 2 sons: John F. Claudio of Fall River and M. Brian Claudio of New Bedford; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.

Funeral from the funeral home on Monday, December 7, 2009 at 8:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, New Bedford at 10:00 A.M.
Interment in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, New Bedford.
