Obituary

Lena Mavis Shobbrook, 86, of Plymouth, died Thursday, November 26 at Bay Path Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Walter V. Shobbrook. They were married for 63 years before his death in 2005.
Mrs. Shobbrook was born June 1, 1923, in Goole, England. She served in the Royal Air Force Women’s Auxiliary during WWII where she met her husband who was an RAF flight officer. They were married September 11, 1943. After the war, she spent the next 20 years traveling with her beloved husband through the Caribbean and Latin America before settling in Plymouth in 1966. She then went to work at the Jordan Hospital as a switchboard operator and as an admissions clerk in the outpatient department. She retired from the Jordan Hospital in 1985. After her retirement, she and Walter spent many happy years visiting friends and family in New Zealand, Canada, Mexico and England. She was also an active member of Christ Church Episcopal and the Christ Church Women’s Guild.
She is survived by her two daughters, Christine Harris and her husband, Geoff, of New Zealand, Belinda Brewster and her husband, Wrestling, of Plymouth; her son, Timothy Shobbrook and his wife, Joannie; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Joanna, Rosemary, James and Noah and two great-grandchildren, Angus and Ruby.
A funeral service and internment will be held at 10 am Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Christ Church Episcopal, 149 Court Street, Plymouth. Visiting hours will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm, Friday, December 11, at Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Road, Manomet.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in her memory be made to The Jordan Family Fund, c/o Jordan Hospital Philanthropy Office, 275 Sandwich Street, Plymouth, MA 02360.
