R. Hilda Gaffney, age 94, a resident of Winchester for over 50 years, passed away at her home on Dec. 2nd. A native of Taunton, Hilda was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Ruth I. (Dailey) Gaffney. She graduated high school in Taunton and subsequently attended Bridgewater State College where she earned a degree in education. She went on to earn her Ph.D. in education at Boston University and began her long teaching career. She retired as a High School Principal in Reading. In her spare time, Hilda enjoyed traveling with her sister Alice to Hawaii and Cape Cod and was one of the original volunteers at the JFK Library in Boston. She was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Parish in Winchester. Hilda was also the sister of the late Joseph W. Gaffney and the dear aunt of Joseph J. Gaffney of IL. Her Funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Mon. Dec, 7 at 9:00AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 10AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Sun. 5-7PM. Interment St. Francis Cemetery, Taunton. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
