Obituary

Bertha (Rubenstein) Seigel of Brookline, Stoughton, and Chelsea died on November 28, 2009. She was 96 years old.

Bertha was the beloved wife of the late Edward “Izzy” Seigel. She was the devoted mother of Harvey Seigel and his wife Sharon and the loving grandmother of Adam Seigel, Joshua Seigel and his wife Tori, and Jordan Seigel. She was the dear sister of Shirley R. Cohen and her husband Alvin, Selma Galer and her husbands the late Mac Tobin and the late Ted Galer, Leona Grell and her husband the late Manny Grell, and the late Herbert Rubenstein and his wife Marilyn.

Bertha was a member of the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home Women’s Auxiliary and many other temple and charitable organizations. Bertha loved opera and music in general. She was an avid reader and participated in book reviews. Bertha was very self-sufficient until she broke her arm which caused her to become dependent on others; which she found most demeaning to her. She was awaiting twin girls from Tori and Josh but her strength gave out in her sleep. She left us as graciously as she lived. Bertha was the “head” of the family and had many great and great-great nieces and nephews who respected her. She will be sadly missed, but always remembered with love.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Cohen Florence Levine Estates for the loving care given to Bertha for 14 years. Graveside service at Lindwood Memorial Park, North Street, Randolph, on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Donations in Bertha’s memory may be made to her favorite charity; Cohen Florence Levine Estates, c/o Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home Foundation, 17 Lafayette Ave., Chelsea, MA 02150.
