Obituary

Neal Waldo McIntyre, Jr., 85, of Fitzgerald, Georgia went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, November 29, 2009, at Dorminy Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Irwinville Baptist Church with Rev. Sonny Pate, Rev. Jerry Wilson, Elder Ed McIntyre and Rev. Jeff Cumming officiating. Neal McIntyre will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Irwinville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. McIntyre was born May 31, 1924 in Irwin County to the late Neal W. and Ina Statham McIntyre. He lived in Irwin and Ben Hill counties all of his life. Mr. McIntyre was a retired rural letter carrier with the U.S Post Office and farmer. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He flew on B17’s and was shot down over Germany and was a German Prisoner Of War from March, 1944 until May, 1945. Mr. McIntyre was a member, deacon, and former clerk and Sunday school teacher at Irwinville Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion, Post # 100 and held various positions in the American Ex POW Organization.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jean McIntyre of Fitzgerald; sons and daughters-in-law, Fred & Brenda McIntyre and Roger & Kay McIntyre all of Irwinville; daughter-in-law, Margie McIntyre of Dahlonega; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Elder Ed and Betty McIntyre of Irwinville; stepchildren, Gail & Phil Stokes, William Reeves and Wanda & Tommy Warner all of Fitzgerald. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Ruth Thomas McIntyre, 1 son, Virgil McIntyre and 1 sister, Vernetta Aikin.
