WORCESTER___William J. Chiras, 68, of Worcester, died Friday, November 27, 2009 in Radius Health Care, 119 Providence St.

He leaves his aunt, Julia Gallien of Leicester and several cousins. He was born in Worcester, a son of Stephen V. Chiras and Mary (Ruszala) Chiras Zecker and lived here all his life.

Mr. Chiras was a mail sorter 30 years for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring in 2003. Previously, he worked 10 years for Worcester Pressed Steel Co. He attended Commerce High School and enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. William was a disabled veteran. He was a member of the Polish Naturalization & Independent Club and was a member and past president of the former Lithuanian War Veteran's Organization. He was especially fond of his cockatoo, Fred.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 2 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, with a Mass at 10:30 A.M. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street. Burial with military honors will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Tuesday, Dec 1 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
