Obituary

Worcester—Lowell Carl Mercier, 79—loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and lifelong Worcester resident—entered into eternal life on Thursday, November 26, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marylin (Monroe) Mercier; 3 sons, Mark D. Mercier of Worcester, Lowell W. Mercier and wife Cathy of Framingham, and Craig Mercier and wife Ann of Burlington; 6 grandchildren, Laura Dumas and husband Jody, Sgt. Mark D. Mercier and wife Jackie, Gina M., Emily, Cameron, and Evan Mercier; 4 great-grandchildren, Marrisa Dumas, Alexander Mercier, Zachary Dumas, and Trinity Mercier; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Lowell was a graduate of Commerce High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951 and proudly served his country as Storekeeper 3rd Class aboard the U.S.S. Tripoli for 4 years during the Korean War. He was the recipient of the following commendations: Korean Service Medal, United National Service Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Navy Occupation (Europe). Upon returning to Worcester, he worked for 25 years as a city letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office, retiring in 1992. Lowell was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Retired Men’s Club of Greendale and The National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and served as treasurer of the Local Chapter 255. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and was a season ticket holder for 32 years.

Calling hours at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester will be Monday, Nov. 30, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services in the Nave of Trinity Lutheran Church will be on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
