George E. Lavoie, 81, of Londonderry, NH, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2009 in his home surrounded by his wife of 52 years and their children . Mr. Lavoie was born in Mt. Carmel, Canada on July 13, 1928, a son of the late Joseph and Blance (St. Onge) Lavoie. He was a resident of Londonderry for the past three years, formerly living in Leesburg, FL and Hudson, NH. Mr. Lavoie was a US Air Force veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a printed circuit designer for B.A.E. Systems in Nashua until his retirement in 1989. Mr. Lavoie was a communicant of St. Jude Parish in Londonderry and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a devoted New York Yankees fan and used to umpire softball games. Mr. Lavoie enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, doing puzzles and word games, gardening, and dancing with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Alice A. (Dube) Lavoie of Londonderry; three daughters, Linda Shunaman and her husband Charles of Hudson, NH, Lisa Jessop and her husband John of Springfield, NH, and Laurie Hartford and her husband William of Manchester, NH; one son, Neal Lavoie of Hudson, NH. eight grandchildren, Stephen Penders, Justin, Jordan, Jonathan Jessop, Meghan and Caleb Hartford, Leah and Joseph Lavoie; three brothers, Leonard Lavoie and his wife Beatrice, Lionel Lavoie and his wife Priscilla of Merrimack, NH, and John Paul Lavoie and his wife Elaine of Hudson, NH; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Doris Desmaris and Gloria Gagne.
Calling hours were held on Monday, November 30th from 3 - 6pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00am in St. Jude Parish, 435 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. Private burial was in the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Assoc. of Manchester & Southern NH, 33 South Commercial St., Suite 401, Manchester, NH 03101, or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01710.
