Charlane L. (Gomes) Butler, 66, of New Bedford died Thursday November 26, 2009 at home after a long illness. She was the wife of Clarence Butler.
Born in Wareham, the daughter of the late Amos and Mabel Etta (Hackett) Gomes, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
Mrs. Butler was formerly employed as a silkscreener for Epec, Inc.
Survivors include her husband; eight children, Jose Souza, III of New Bedford, John Souza of Michigan, Evelyn Menard of New Bedford, Mabel Mendez of Arizona, Donna Souza, Mary Clark, and Patricia Butler, all of New Bedford, and Chris Butler of West Virginia; a brother, Arthur Andrade of East Falmouth; two sisters, Nellie Rosado and Barbara Mason, both of New Bedford; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Her Memorial Mass will be held on Friday at 8:30 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mount Pleasant St., New Bedford. Visiting hours are omitted.
