Obituary

Donald Leggett, 85, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Friday, November 27 at Fitzgerald Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held 4 P.M., Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ricky Kellum officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Leggett was born January 27, 1924 in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Kelly B. and Louise Lipsey Leggett. Growing up, he helped his family by selling boiled peanuts. He lived in Fitzgerald most of his life, where he raised cows and hogs and was owner/operator of Leggett’s Meat Market for 25 years. Mr. Leggett enjoyed playing the guitar and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his children, Mary Jo (Harold) Moody of Ellijay, Linda (John) Tabor of Fitzgerald, Donna (Ray) Tompkins of Battle Creek, MI and Donald Clayton “Clay” Leggett of Fitzgerald; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Betty Storey, Robert Leggett, Bill (Merline) Leggett and Jean Rodgers, all of Fitzgerald and Doris Reynolds of Port St. Lucie, Fl, as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Mae Reynolds Leggett and a sister.
