William L. "Bud" Surette
...founded Microtab Development Co. in Wakefield; 84
TEWKSBURY - William L. "Bud" Surette, age 84, the founder of a high tech company in Wakefield, died Friday morning, November 27, at the Wingate of Lowell nursing care facility following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Marion A. (White) Surette, with whom he had celebrated a 65th wedding anniversary this past November 11th.
He was born in Wakefield, December 18, 1924, a son of the late Louis and Margaret (Melonson) Surette. He was raised in Wakefield where he resided until moving to Tewksbury in 1961.
Despite a lifelong battle with his body following childhood Polio, he overcame all obstacles to become an inventor and machinist of miniature parts, held several manufacturing patents, and founded the Microtab Development Company in Wakefield. He supplied micro-miniature parts to Aero Space and missile manufacturing companies worldwide. According to his family, his proudest lifetime career achievement was knowing some of his manufactured parts were aboard the Apollo Moon missions in the 1960's.
Besides his wife, he was the father of four, the late Scott Surette, the late Ms. Dale Surette, Sharon Surette of Billerica, and Barry Surette also of Billerica; brother of Phyllis Oxford, Lorraine Hinds and her husband Albion "Al" Hinds all of Wakefield, Robert Surette and Mary Court both of Tewksbury; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours were held Sunday, with burial at Tewksbury Cemetery on Monday, November 30th. Memorials to Nexus Inc. 888 Main St., Woburn, MA 01801, a charity to benefit handicapped, will be appreciated.
