Obituary

John L. Layport, 79, of Rochester died Tuesday November 24, 2009 at home. He was the husband of the late Dorcas M. (Marsaw) Layport.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Herbert and Sara (Brown) Layport, he lived in Mattapoisett for 35 years before moving to Rochester.

Mr. Layport was a mechanical engineer who was the owner of Precision Machine and Engineering.

He had a passion for Brass Era automobiles and was a member of the Horseless Carriage Club of America and the Veteran Motor Car Club. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War.

Survivors include three children, Donna Bosworth and her husband Jim of Dartmouth, Doug Layport and his wife Sandy of Acushnet, and Sara Coker and her husband Kyle of North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, Timothy, and John Bosworth, Robbie Layport, Logan, Katie, and Adam Coker; and his companion, Marilyn Flood of Mattapoisett.
