George F. “Chic” Rodenbush, Jr. 84 years old, of South Yarmouth, died Tuesday November 24, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was the loving husband for 60 years of the late Jayne A. (Maguire) Rodenbush. Mr. Rodenbush was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late George F. and Mary V. (Walsh) Rodenbush and graduated from Brockton High School in 1942 and The College of the Holy Cross in 1946. During WWII he served honorably in the US Navy and was discharged as an ensign.
In 1987 Mr. Rodenbush retired after 38 years of service as district sales manager for NYNEX (formerly New England Telephone) and had been a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Following his retirement he moved to South Yarmouth. He was a lifelong golfer and had been a member of Thorny Lea Golf Course in Brockton and Bass River Golf Course in Yarmouth. He was a charter member of the Sons of Erin and a member of the Holy Cross Alumni Association. He enjoyed time spent with his wife and family and yearly winters in Naples, Florida.
A communicant of St. Pius X Church in Yarmouth, Mr. Rodenbush had also attended Our Lady of Lourdes Church when living in Brockton.
Mr. Rodenbush is survived by his children Nancy J. Ambler and her husband Tracy of So. Yarmouth; George F. Rodenbush III and his wife Jayne of Brockton; Kathleen J. Dupuy and her husband Robert of Somerset; John J. Rodenbush and his wife Elaina of Palm Harbor, FL and James F.X. Rodenbush of So. Yarmouth. He was the grandfather of Ryan and Brendan Pomeroy, Brett and Devon Ambler, Kerri and Patrick Rodenbush, Joshua and Meghan Dupuy and Elizabeth and Molly Rodenbush. He leaves two great grandsons Dylan Pomeroy and Xavier Dupuy, several nieces and nephews and was the brother of the late James and Gerald Rodenbush and Maureen Canducci.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 10 am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St. Brockton at 11 am. Burial in the Mass National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:15 pm. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6 pm.
