Kenneth E. Salley, 70, of Star Ave., Woonsocket, died Monday at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of 46 years of Priscilla D. (Brien) Salley. They were married on January 19, 1963.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Neil B. and Helen (Barden) Salley. He was raised in Greenville and Smithfield and resided in Woonsocket for over 40 years. He served in the RI National Guard, the Army and the Air Force.
Mr. Salley worked for Greystone Inc. (formerly H & H Screw) in Lincoln for over 45 years.
Scouting was an important part of Ken’s early life. He achieved his Eagle Scout, and traveled extensively with his father and brothers in many Scouting capacities. The lessons of scouting shaped him in his formative years and stayed with him throughout his life.
Mr. Salley’s family was the center of his life. Whether it was camping, snowmobiling, traveling and vacationing, or daily life around the home, Ken, and his wife Priscilla, were immersed in the lives and activities of their children and grandchildren.
One of his favorite places was his home in Whitefield, NH. Know to some as his “Wilderness Retreat”, or more affectionately dubbed “Pepere’s House in the Woods” by his grandchildren, it was there that Ken found a special solace in the beauty of the outdoors.
He was an ardent fan of his Red Sox and Patriots and enjoyed traveling throughout Europe.
In addition to his wife of 46 years, he is survived by three sons, Steven M. (Paula) of Millville, Brian S. (Sandra) of Woonsocket, Peter A. (Brenda) Salley of Burrillville, two daughters, Nancy L. Godin (Jerome) of Blackstone, and Lisa M. Coughlin (Frederick III) of Cumberland. He was the brother of Neil B. Salley of Esmond, and Robert J. Salley of Scituate, and grandfather of Ashley and Kyle Coughlin, Jordan and Kelsey Godin, Kayla, Patrick, Michael, Jacob, Lindsey, and Meghan Salley. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
His funeral will be Saturday at 8:30 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Mendon Rd, Woonsocket. Burial with military honors will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket. Visiting hours are Friday from 2-4 & 6-9 pm.
