GILCHRIST SR., MALCOLM JAMES, a life long resident of Teaneck died on Sunday, November 22, 2009. Beloved father of Geoffrey and his wife Jeanine Gilchrist of Mahwah, Denice Gilchrist and her husband Joseph Mercadante of Mahwah and Malcolm Jr., and his wife Nicole Gilchrist of Little Ferry. Adored grandfather of Falynn, Lindsay and Malcolm III. Devoted brother of Lorna Buggeln of Dumont. Cherished Uncle of William Buggeln and Donna Dloughy.
Malcolm graduated from Lowell Elementary School in Teaneck, and High School at Englewood School for Boys in Englewood, NJ. He attended Rutgers University and graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University, receiving a BS in Management with honors in Economics. He also earned an MBA in Finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Malcolm founded Gilchrist & Co. Realtors in 1978 and acquired the first RE/MAX franchise in Teaneck in 1991, at which time, Gilchrist & Co. became RE/MAX Advantage Plus. He had earned numerous professional designations, and was a member of the National, New Jersey and Eastern Bergen Boards of Realtors.
The Teaneck Chamber of Commerce recently honored him as 2009 Citizen of the Year. He was a past Coach and Officer of the Teaneck Southern Little League. He was involved in multiple charitable organizations including the Teaneck Rotary Club (a thirty-year member, two-time past President and past Director) and the Children’s Miracle Network through RE/MAX. He was also the Chairman of the Teaneck Annual Golf Outing.
Malcolm enjoyed life to the fullest and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. He also enjoyed attending spectator sports and golfing, and was particularly proud of being a member of the Hole in One Club. He will be greatly missed by all.
Friends and family are invited for visitation on Friday, November 27th from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, NJ. A funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Funeral Home. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
