Obituary

James T. Casper, Jr., 81, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Friday, November 20, 2009, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Monday, November 23, 2009 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Casper was born July 8, 1928 in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late James T. Casper and Maude Brewer Casper Connelly. A 1945 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, he attended South Georgia College, North Georgia College, and the Texas School of Metallurgy & Mines in El Paso, Texas. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired as a Central Office Equipment Supervisor after 38 years of service with GTE. A lover of the outdoors, Mr. Casper enjoyed growing pecans and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He coached little league for his children and grandchildren. He was a member and deacon of Arbor Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the usher committee and the membership committee…..“I’m going down to the river.”

He is survived by his wife of 56 years: Betty Stone Casper of Fitzgerald; son and daughter-in-law: Jim & Debbie Casper of Fitzgerald; daughter and son-in-law: Jan & Gary Ussery of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Casey & B.J. Rodgers, Carla Casper, and Rhyan Ussery, all of Fitzgerald; sisters: Robbie Connelly of Stone Mountain and Dorothy Jean & Earl Bowe of Ormond Beach, FL; as well as several nieces and nephews.
