Mrs. Elvira N. Gumina, age 81, passed away Sunday at the New England Baptist Hospital of Boston, following a lengthy illness. Known as “Pretty” to her friends and family, she was a life long resident of Medford. Born in Medford she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Gilda (Sirignano) Freda. She was the beloved wife of sixty years to Carmen A. Gumina. Mrs. Gumina worked for over fifteen years as an administrator for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health retiring in the late 80´s. Mrs. Gumina was devoted to her family and enjoyed playing the piano, making arts and crafts, and caring for her pet cat. Mrs. Gumina was also a member of the Medford Womens Club.
In addition to her beloved husband Carmen, she is survived by her daughter Marie A. Murphy and her husband Larry of Medford. She was the loving grandmother of Jay and Shannon Murphy both of Medford and the late Megan Murphy. She is also survived by three sisters; Mifalda Celeste of Medford, Antoinette Ligouri of Westerly, RI and Enis Jakolenko of Pompano Beach, FL.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St. Medford, Thursday, at 8 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church 512 High St. Medford, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours 2-4 & 7-9. Services will cocnlude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
