SWANSEA … Silas H. Bookman, 70, of Swansea died at home Saturday, October 31, 2009.
He was the husband of Gladys E. (Sears) Bookman.
He was born in Fall River a son of the late Nathaniel, Sr. and Maggie Lee (Thompson) Bookman and had lived in Swansea since 1972.
He was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. on Hanover Street, Fall River.
He was employed as a supervisor for American Dryer in Fall River retiring in 2004 after 34 years of service.
He served in the United States Army.
Mr. Bookman was a member of the Private Francis Post # 486, Fall River, the Liberal Club, Fall River. He enjoyed cooking, traveling, and was a New England Patriots fan.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, a son Scott C. Bookman of Dartmouth, a daughter Rene M. Williams of Atlanta, GA, 6 grandchildren: Courtney, Garrick, Craig, Connor, Zachary, and Ja-Rod, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the brother of the late Nathaniel Bookman, Jr, William A. Bookman, Cora Lee Wood, and Ellen Green.
Memorial services to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Friday December 4, 2009, at 11AM at the Bethel A.M.E., Hanover Street, Fall River followed by a celebration of life at 6PM at the Liberal Club 20 Star Street, Fall River.
Arrangements are by the SOUTH COAST FUNERAL HOME, 1555 Pleasant Street, Fall River.
