Rose (Almeida) Leighton-Britto, 90, of New Bedford died September 6, 2003 at Hallmark Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.
She was the wife of John Britto and the late Nestro Leighton and daughter of the late Phillippa and Clara (Lopes) Almeida.
Mrs. Leighton-Britto was born in Marion and lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was a former parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Leighton-Britto was formerly employed at several local textile mills, fish houses and as a dietitian at Blaire House Nursing Home.
She was a foster grandparent at the Gomes School. She enjoyed dancing, cooking and gardening.
Survivors include her husband; 5 grandchildren, Tracey K. Nieuwenhuizen and Kenneth Leighton, Jr. both of New Bedford; Kelly Smith, Robert E. Lee, Jr. and Kenneth Lee, all of Seattle; several great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Kenneth N. "Big Daddy" Leighton and Claire Leighton and sister of the late Joanna Ramos and Joseph Almeida.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Tuesday, September 9th from 5-8 PM.
Her Funeral Service and burial will be private.
