Joseph B. Padula 83, a lifelong Franklin resident, died Thursday November 19, 2009 at Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, following an extended period of failing health. He was the husband of Madelyn H. (DeMarzi) Padula.
Born in Franklin, July 11, 1926 a son of the late Angelo and Pauline (Rufrano) Padula, he was raised and educated in Franklin. Mr. Padula was a retired brick layer and cement finisher.
He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He attained the rank of seaman 2nd class, and was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 bronze stars, the WWII Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 bronze stars.
Mr. Padula was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, who enjoyed music and collecting old records.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 63 years, is a son Donald A. Padula of Franklin, five brothers John R., James, and Frederick Padula all of Franklin, Charles Padula of Wrentham, and Ronald Padula of Blackstone and two sisters Margaret Dias and Theresa Poles of Florida. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Deborah A. Ambrose, and the brother of the late Domenic, Anthony, Francis, Raymond and Anne Padula.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military Honors Monday November 23rd, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St., Franklin (www.franklinfuneral.com) with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. at 10AM.
Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
