D. Charles (Charlie) Haggart
January 27, 1941 – November 17, 2009

Charlie Haggart passed away at The Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vermont after a long and courageous battle with diabetes. Charlie was born in Berlin, N.H., January 27, 1941 and was a 1959 graduate of St. Patrick’s High School. For 4 years he served in the U.S. Air Force as a Meteorologist/Weather Observer. He continued a weather career for another 8 years at the Mount Washington Observatory as well as in the Arctic at weather stations for the United States and Canadian governments. He owned and ran Fagin’s Pub for eight years before starting “Sport About Charlie’s” which he owned for the past thirty years.
Charlie leaves behind a stepdaughter, Lisa Pollari and her husband Andy, of Georges Mills, New Hampshire, and a stepson, Brian Demers, of Champions Gate, Florida. Charlie is also survived by one sister, Kathy Haggart Reddig and her husband Bill, of Littleton, Colorado, two brothers, Bobby Haggart of Berlin and Rick Haggart and his wife Jackie, of Colchester, Vermont. Other survivors include one step-grand daughter, two nephews, three nieces, and two great nephews.
Charlie was, for many years, the Umpire-in-Chief of the Berlin/Gorham Bambino Baseball League, the North Country Softball League, and the Annual Canaan Men's Invitational Softball Tournament. He was a member of the N.H. Babe Ruth Baseball/Softball Umpires Association, the N.H. ASA Umpires Association, and the N.H. High School Softball Umpires Association.He was also a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Charlie was well known in the North Country area as a sports enthusiast, player, umpire, and referee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Anne’s Church, of The Good Shepherd Parish, at 2 P.M. on Friday, November 20, 2009. Following burial at Saint Kieran’s Cemetery on East Milan Road, a reception will be held at the lower Saint Anne’s Hall to celebrate Charlie’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Charlie to The Berlin/Gorham Cal Ripken Baseball League in care of Jim O’Donnell, 188 Hillside Ave,Berlin, N.H. 03570.
