Joseph A. Carr, a resident of Brooksby Village in Peabody for the last 7 years and a former 34 year resident of Melrose, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at Salem Hospital in Salem. He was 89 years old.
Joe was born in Boston on February 3, 1920. He grew up in Revere where he attended Immaculate Conception Parochial School and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School. Joe received his degree in Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. He enlisted into the United States Army Air Corps on October 2, 1944 and served his country during World War II. He was discharged on December 8, 1945 with the rank of Second Lieutenant. Joe worked as an Engineer for Raytheon Corporation, A.V.C.O., and Sanders Associates of Nashua, New Hampshire. Joe began his own car dealership in 1960 know as Colonial Motors & Colonial Imports in Nashua, New Hampshire, and worked there until 1974. In 1978 he began working for Wang Laboratories as an Engineer in their research & development division and retired from there in 1982. Joe was a member of Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose and Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Joe is the beloved husband of the late Gladys G. (Sullivan) Carr. He is the devoted father of Virginia "Ginny" Morrison and her husband Warren of Saugus and Deborah Dunn and her husband W. Michael of Concord, New Hampshire. He is the loving grandfather of Thomas Morrison and his wife Beth of Wakefield, Scott Morrison of Melrose and Ryan Dunn of Concord, New Hampshire, and his great-grandaughter; Julia Morrison. He is the beloved brother of William Carr and his wife Barbara of Boston and the late Alice Pedonti and Lawrence Carr. He is beloved brother-in-law of Frank Sullivan and his wife Dolores of Sandwich. He is the dear companion of Alicia Roman of Stoneham. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joe's Funeral Mass on Saturday, November 21, 2009, at 10 a.m. in The Church of The Incarnation, 425 Upham Street, Melrose. There are no visiting hours. Burial will be at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
