Obituary

Curtis F. Dale, 83, of Fitzgerald died Sunday, November 15, 2009, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Westside Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Cargle and Rev. Robert McDearmid officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Dale was born February 12, 1926 in Coffee County, Georgia, to the late Elias and Laura Fussell Dale. He lived in Fitzgerald community most of his life. Mr. Dale was co-owner & founder of Fitzgerald Contractors, managed Ross Concrete for fourteen years and hauled coal in 1948 for Mr. Steed. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving on a Sub Chaser during World War II. Mr. Dale was chairman of the building and grounds committee and helped to build Westside Baptist Church. He also served as a deacon and song leader. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 99.

He is survived by his wife: Marjorie W. Dale of Fitzgerald; son and daughter-in-law, Curtis Allen “Butch” & Evelyn Dale of Mexico Beach; daughter, Elaine Dale of Fitzgerald; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Christine Brown of Irwin County and Vermell Ellison of Zephyrhills, FL. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 3 brothers.
