Ruth E. Minkwitz of Canton passed away, November 13th, 2009 at Carleton Willard in Bedford surrounded by her children. She was born November 4, 1920 in Hyde Park, Ma, the daughter of late Florence and Henry Mahler. She was the older of 2 siblings, the late Henry Mahler and late Dorothy Mahler. On July 14, 1945 she married to the late Russell E. Minkwitz. Prior to marrying she worked for John Hancock Insurance and was active at the Hyde Park First Congregational Church. After marrying she lived in Canton 56 years. She devoted her love to raising six children. She was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Canton where she served as the Christian Education Director and participated in the Cedarcrest Group. She was a group leader for Cub Scouts and Camp Fire Girls while her sons and daughters were members. Ruth was a member of the Rug Braiding Group. She worked with elementary children as a librarian at the Kennedy School in Canton for 15 years. She was active with many charitable activities within the town of Canton and Little League Baseball. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society driving individuals to their medical appointments and receiving an award for her services. Beloved wife of the late Russell E. Sr. Mother of Russell E. Jr. and his wife Carol of Walpole, Steven A. of Marblehead, Richard E. and & his wife Debra L. of Canton, Judith A. Leikauskas and her husband Robert E. of Hamilton, Barbara R. Minkwitz of Mansfield and Deborah S. Burke and her husband Richard H. of Billerica. Sister-in-law of Anne Mahler of Upton. Grandmother of Russell E. Minkwitz, III & his wife Christen, Laura K. Minkwitz-Kelloway & her husband Don, Eric J. Minkwitz, Emilee L. Minkwitz, Richard E. Minkwitz, Jr., Jillian A. Leikauskas, Joshua R. Burke and Jacob R. Burke. Great-grandmother of Nathan, Matthew and Noah Minkwitz. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the United Church of Christ, Canton Sunday November 22nd at 2:00 pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of Flowers donations in Mrs. Minkwitz’s memory may be made to the United Church of Christ, 1541 Washington St, Canton, Ma 02021.
