WORCESTER-Joseph McGourty, 92, formerly of 21 Dillon Street, died Tuesday, November 10th in Radius Healthcare Center. His wife of 44 years, Catherine A. (Finn) McGourty, died in 1997. He leaves two nephews, Lawrence E. Finnegan and his wife Mary of Worcester and Michael McTernan and his wife Katrina of Dublin, Ireland; two nieces, Mary O’Toole and her husband Michael of Co. Cavan, Ireland and Eileen Marx and her husband Michael of New York; 15 grandnephews; 7 grandnieces; several great grandnephews and great grandnieces. He was predeceased by five sisters.
He was born in Ireland, the son of James and Ellen (McTiernan) McGourty and lived here many years. Mr. McGourty was a storekeeper at the College of the Holy Cross for 26 years, before retiring in 1983. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and enjoyed St. Patrick’s Day, Irish dancing, and especially being with family and friends. Joe’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Radius Healthcare Center and Hospice who made it easier for Joe in his last few weeks.
The funeral is Friday, November 20th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 600 Cambridge Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, November 19th from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
