CHESTERTON-NORRIS, Florence C. (Chew) Of Needham, formerly of Wellesley, died November 12, 2009, at her residence at North Hill, Needham. She was 102 years old. Mrs. Chesterton-Norris was born May 19, 1907, in Xenia, Ohio, the eldest daughter of Jessie Baker Chew and James A. Chew, owner of Chew Newspapers (Ohio). She attended Dana Hall, class of 1925, and graduated from Wellesley College, class of 1929. She worked after graduation at the Harvard Business School where she graded finance and marketing reports. After her family and friends, music was her second and lifelong love. She was a longtime supporter and Patron of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Important to her were trips with the Boston Symphony to Europe and Japan. Two other memorable occasions were trips to Washington, D.C.; first, accompanying her husband Thomas W. Chesterton, when the A.W. Chesterton Company received an E award in the Rose Garden from President Lyndon Johnson, and second, when she was part of a Boston World Affairs Counsel that presented an award to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher at the White House. Music and singing continued to inspire her throughout her life. At North Hill in Needham, where she resided since 1990, she attended music concerts, sang in the chorus, and she continued to enjoy Boston Symphony live concerts. Mrs. Chesterton-Norris was a member of Brae Burn Country Club of Newton, and the Framingham Country Club, as well as The Hole in the Wall Golf Club of Naples, FL, the Naples Yacht Club, and the Bald Peak Colony Club in Melvin Village, NH. In Boston, she was a member of the Chilton Club, and in Wellesley, the Wellesley Garden Club and the Wellesley College Club. She was the wife of the late Thomas W. Chesterton and following his death, wife of the late Roger S. Norris; the mother of the late James D. Chesterton of Portsmouth, NH, and Thomas W. Chesterton of Watertown. She was grandmother of Andrew W. Chesterton and Glenn Chesterton, and had 4 great-grandchildren. She was also sister of the late Katherine C. Simonds of Wilmington, OH and Elizabeth C. Siebenthaler, Kewadin, MI. In addition, she is survived by her step-children, Jane N. Hovde and William Norris, both of Northampton, four step-grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren. She was also the mother-in-law of the late Veronica E. Chesterton, Portsmouth, NH, and Janice J.Tilson, Watertown. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, corner of Denton Rd. & Washington St., Wellesley, Friday, November 20, at 12 noon. Visiting hours at the George F.
