Obituary

Benjamin “Ben” Sherman, 21, of Ft. Bragg, NC, formerly of Plymouth, passed away unexpectedly while serving his second tour of duty in the Army in Afghanistan on November 10th. He was the husband of Patricia “Trish” (Shea) Sherman of Ft. Bragg, NC, formerly of Plymouth, who was expecting their first child. Son of William T. Sherman of Fairhaven and Denise (Richmond) Sherman of Plymouth. He leaves his sister, Meredith Sherman-Sturge and her husband Ryan of Plymouth and Kittery, ME, his half-sister, Jessica Santos and her husband David of New Bedford, his grandmothers, Barbara Richmond of Plymouth and Adele Sherman of New Bedford and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A resident of Plymouth since the age of 2, Ben graduated from Plymouth South High School in 2006 and enjoyed football, baseball, karate and was an avid fan of the Red Sox. He also played the drums since age seven. He was serving in the Army as Paratrooper in the 4th Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division. He held the rank of SPC(P), days away from being officially appointed Sergeant, he was promoted posthumously. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 19th from 3-7 pm at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Road, Plymouth (Manomet). A Funeral Service will be on Friday, November 20th at 11 o’clock at the Second Church of Plymouth in Manomet. Burial will follow at the Manomet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be made to the Benjamin W. Sherman Memorial Foundation, to honor his memory by helping families of Military Service Members with financial assistance due to unexpected hardships. Donations can be dropped off at any Rockland Trust branch or mailed to Rockland Trust, 288 Union St, Rockland, MA 02370.
