Herman Cabral, Jr., 78, of New Bedford died November 14, 2009 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the husband of Esmeralda (Arruda) Cabral, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Agua DePau, St. Michael, Azores, the son of the late Herman and Maria (Costa) Cabral, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Cabral was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
He was formerly employed by Acushnet Company for 27 years until his retirement.
Mr. Cabral was a member of the City Band and the Portuguese American Band and a founding band member of Our Lady of Angels Band.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching New England sports teams and Benfica Soccer Club.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Edward Cabral and his wife Jane of Fairhaven and Stephen Cabral and his fiancée Kim E. Lavelle of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Dianne Faria and her companion Stephen Jason of Dartmouth and Rose Cabral of New Bedford; a brother, Joseph Cabral of Hyannis; 2 sisters, Maria Natalia Cabral of Montreal and Cecelia Piva of Acushnet; 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Louis Cabral.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday, November 18th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday, November 17th from 5-8 PM.
