WAYLAND: Rita A. (Donovan) Dorey, 88, died peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2009 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Boston on March 4, 1921 the daughter of the late John and Sarah (Lamb) Donovan.
Mrs. Dorey is survived by her loving and devoted son, Robert J. Dorey and his wife Heather E. Dorey of Natick. She was the cherished Grandmother of Sarah E. Dorey and Katherine E. Dorey both of Natick. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Herlihy of Plymouth and several nieces and nephews. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Dorey who died in March of 1989.
Mrs. Dorey has been a resident of Wayland for the past 48 years and previously resided in Roslindale and Jamaica Plain. She was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School and received her BA in Nutrition from Regis College with the Class of 1942. After graduating from college she worked for a number of years in food service at Dartmouth College, Trinity College and Boston City Hospital. For over fifteen years she was a teacher of Home Economics in the Boston Public School system. In her earlier years, she enjoyed playing bridge, tennis and spending time at the beach with her family. She was a longtime and active communicant of St. Ann’s Parish in Wayland and served for many years on the Altar Guild. She was devoted to her Catholic faith, her family and her friends. Rita was also a member of the Golden Tones of Wayland and spent countless hours reading to her two granddaughters who were the center of her life.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Route 30), Wayland.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 9:00 am followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 at St. Ann’s Parish, Route 27, Wayland.
Interment will follow in the Dorey family lot in North Cemetery in Wayland.
