Violette R. (Marquis) Berard, age 85 of Dracut, passed away on Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Emile Berard.
She was born in Lowell on February 27, 1924, a daughter of the late Emile and Rosia (Tellier) Marquis. Violette was a longtime resident of Dracut and a communicant of the former St. Jean Baptiste Parish. She more recently attended St. Marguerite D'Youville and St. Mary Magdalen Parishes in Dracut.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Sears in Lowell and also worked for a short time with Lowell General Hospital, the cafeteria at U-Mass Lowell and Stevens Mill. Earlier in her life, she worked for her father's store, Marquis Market, in the Little Canada section of the Acre.
Violette had a great love for animals, especially her dog, Tyler. She also enjoyed square dancing, traveling, the ocean and word searches, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Violette is survived by her three children and their spouses, Rose Marie and Ronald Larose of Groton, Paulette and Tom Hertig of Derry, NH and Louis and Christine Berard of Dunstable, her grandchildren, whom she adored, Renee and Christine Larose, Matthew, Daniel and Nathan Hertig and Zachary and Sophie Berard; three sisters, Paulette St. Arnaud of Lowell, Annette Daigle and her husband Donald of Tyngsboro and Jeanne Richards of California; a brother, Roger Marquis and his wife Claire of Chicago; a brother-in-law, Gerard "Yogi" Drouin of Dracut; a sister-in-law, Gloria Marquis of Dracut; also many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Roland Marquis, Jeanne Marquis, Doris Drouin, Louis Marquis.
Relatives and friends may call at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Friday, Nov. 13 from 3 to 7pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish - Ste. Therese Church, Dracut. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street Framingham, MA 01701.
