Rhoda J. (Grew) Steinberg, a 30 year resident of Melrose and formerly of Revere, died on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at Wilmington Health Care Center in Wilmington following an extended illness. She was 88 years old.
Rhoda was born in North Adams, Massachusetts, on May 30, 1921 to the late Ambrose and Florence (Busby) Grew. She grew up in North Adams and attended schools there. Rhoda was a very active participant in supporting the "UE" United Electrical Union in the 1940's to the 1960's with her husband Gerard. Rhoda volunteered at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for several years. She enjoyed and taught ceramics and with her spare time she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rhoda is the beloved wife of the late Gerard P. Steinberg. She is the devoted mother of James D. Steinberg and his wife Ginny of Melrose and the late Judith Fox and her surviving husband James of Beverly. She is the loving Nana to Paul and his wife Paula, Leanne and her husband David, Kurt and his wife Janice, Diane and her husband John, Michelle and her husband Greg and her great-grandchildren; Justin, Tayla, Jack, Julia, Thomas, Laura, Patrick, Nathan, Lily and Lila. She is the dear friend of Edward Fallon of Melrose.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service for Rhoda on Monday, November 16, 2009, at 11 a.m. in The Woodlawn Cemetery Chapel, 302 Elm Street, Everett. Rhoda's cremains will be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery following her service.
