Obituary

Clement J. “Clem” Powers, 84 years of Bridgewater formerly of Brockton died Monday November 9, 2009 at the Good Samarian Medical Center. Loving husband of Eleanor (Boisseau) Powers. He was born and raised in Brockton, a son of the late William J. and Sadie (Benton) Powers. He was a graduate of Brockton High School Class of 1943 and Bentley School of accounting Class of 1952. During WW II he enlisted with in the US Marines where he served 27 months in the 4th Marine Division. He served in Iwo Jima, Tinian and Saipan, where he received 2 purple hearts, 3 bronze battle stars and 2 presidential citations.
Clem was a well known Cadillac salesman in Brockton for 38 years and a member of the Health Club at the YMCA for several years. He enjoyed traveling around the U.S. for reunions of the 4th Marine Division until his recent illness. Clem enjoyed going to veterans meetings in Brockton at the VA twice weekly. He was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church most of his life until he moved to Bridgewater where he attended St. John Parish. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

He is survived by six children, Kathleen Dowdall and her husband Robert of Osterville; Michele Leach and her husband Kenneth of Kingston; David Powers of Brockton; Marianne Burns of Pembroke; Jeanne Powers of Middleboro and Kevin Powers and his wife Susan of E. Bridgewater, a sister Patricia Griswold of E. Taunton, his grandchildren, Kenneth Leach; James Burns; Lauren Burns; Jake and Ryan Powers and Kevin Joyce; 2 great grandchildren, Jayden Cataldo and Braden Joyce and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William and Robert Powers.

Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday at 9am. Funeral Mass in St. Ann Church, W. Bridgewater at 10am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8pm.
