Bernice Fox Smoak, 89, of Ravenel, widow of John Frank Smoak, Jr. died Monday, November 9, 2009 at 2:00 am at Island Oaks Living Center, Johns Island.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 2:00 at Sauldam Baptist Church, 5945 County Line Road, Ravenel. Friends may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville from 5 until 7 o’clock Tuesday evening. Entombment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, Charleston. Officiating will be Rev. Chris Smith, Rev. Everett Reconnu and Rev. John Moore. Special music will be performed by Sharon Smoak. Honorary pallbearers will be the board of deacons of Sauldam Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials made to Sauldam Baptist Church, 5945 County Line Road, Ravenel, SC 29470.
Mrs. Smoak was born in Ravenel, a daughter of the late Michael McGinnis Fox and Julia Frances Elsey Fox. She was a graduate of St. Paul’s High School. She was a homemaker and a LowCountry Artist. She was a member of Sauldam Baptist Church where she served as a choir director, leader of Bible study, was a member of Mary Saunders Circle and was a Bible school children’s class teacher.
Surviving are: 2 sons: John F. Smoak, Sr. and his wife Barbara of Walterboro and Terence Wayne Smoak and his wife Bobbie of Charleston, 5 grandchildren: John F. Smoak, Jr. and his wife Sheila Faith of Walterboro, Frank Nolen Smoak and his wife Sharon of Charleston, James Daniel Smoak and his wife Sheila Diane of Ruffin, William Timothy Smoak and his wife Laura of Rock Hill and Ashley Smoak Corley and her husband Barton of Charleston. 5 great grandchildren: Amanda Faith Smoak, John Fox Smoak III, Samuel Caleb Smoak, Rhonda Elaine Smoak and Christen Smoak Mintz and Joshua Dylan Smoak. 4 great step grandchildren: Holly Hughes, Victor Johnson, Rachel Platt and her husband Robert and Nathan Krooner and five great great grandchildren.
