Thomas Joseph “Tom” Hoey, Jr. 91, of Summerville, husband of 63 years to Virginia VanVoorst Hoey died Friday, November 6, 2009 at Summerville Medical Center.
A memorial mass will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 9 o’clock at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, Summerville. Friends and family may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, 303 South Main Street, Summerville from 6 until 8 o’clock Tuesday evening. A prayer service will be held at 7 o’clock.

Tom was born February 19, 1918 in Schuylerville, New York, son of the late Thomas Joseph Hoey, Sr. and Mary Collins Hoey. He was a graduate of Schuylerville High School and he attended Siena College in New York. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the South Pacific in World War II. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for 20 years, was in the prison ministry and was a member of St. John the Beloved Catholic Church. He retired after 32 years from the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: 1 daughter: Mary Davies and her husband Russ of Summerville, 2 grandsons: Thomas Davies and his wife Tammy of Asheville, NC and Timothy Davies of Summerville, 2 great grandchildren: Thomas and Tanner Davies both of Asheville, NC.
