FRAMINGHAM: Edna Pauline (Cunningham) McHatton, 87, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 following a brief period of declining health.
She was born in Framingham on July 22, 1922 the daughter of the late Stinson Cunningham and Esther Eudora (Cunningham) Cunningham.
Mrs. McHatton is survived by her loving and devoted sons: Francis J. McHatton, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Falls Church, VA, Raymond McHatton and his wife Wanda of Framingham, and Arthur McHatton and his wife Sandy of Hendersonville, NC. She was the beloved grandmother of Justin Mudgett and his wife Heather of Milford; Daniel McHatton and Jennifer McHatton both of Framingham. Edna was also the proud and cherished great-grandmother of Kaylie and Brooke Mudgett. Edna was blessed with three sister and a brother; Norma Worthylake of Melrose, Nina Berg of Albuquerque, NM and the late Gladys Edmands and Raymond Cunningham. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Edna also leaves her longtime friend and supporter Nareece Cole.
Edna had been a resident of Natick for over 50 years before moving to Framingham to her son Raymond and Wanda’s residence. She graduated from Framingham High School with the Class of 1930. For many years she worked as a secretary at Dennison Manufacturing in Framingham where she met her late husband Francis J. “MAC” McHatton, Sr. who died in September of 1988. She and Mac raised their three sons in Natick and were active in the community. Edna attended the Fisk Memorial United Methodist Church in Natick where she was very much treasured and will be greatly missed. She was devoted to her family, her life in Christ and anyone she knew who was in need. Forever the optimist, she left everyone with a fresh outlook no matter their dilemma. For several years, she was associated with the Town of Natick through the Natick Public Schools cafeteria program before retiring. She loved to spend time in her garden, baking and knitting afghans for those in need and being with her family who was the center of her life.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Route 30), Cochituate Village,
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Seth Asare, Pastor of Fisk Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be held in Bethel, Maine for her family at a later date.
