Obituary

Ann DeMattia, age 80, of Medford formerly of Belmont passed away November 6th, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford following a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of Edward A. DeMattia and together they shared 59 years of marriage.

Mrs. DeMattia was born and raised in Belmont. She was the daughter of the late Antonio and Anna (Cerino) Castagno.

Mrs. DeMattia has been a Medford resident for well over fifty years and worked for many years as a sales clerk at the former Gilcrest Dept. Store in Medford Square. She was also a member of the retail workers union. Mostly devoted to her loving family, she enjoyed bowling for many years with her friends and teammates of the "Golden Girls Bowling Team". She was active with the Elliot Club of Medford and was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by her daughter, AnnMarie DiFraia and her husband Francis of Medford. She was the loving grandmother of Danielle, Adam and Andrew DiFraia all of Medford. She is further survived by her sister, Jennie Dalessio of Watertown, brothers, Alphonse D. Castagno of Belmont, Stephen Castagno of Uxbridge, and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sisters, the late Florence Welch, Rachel Frano, and Patricia Lefebvre, brothers, the late Amadeo, Antonio and Richard Castagno.

Her funeral will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Tuesday, November 10th, at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Monday, from 3 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Memorial contributions may be made in Ann's memory to the Epilepsy Foundation, Attn: Accounting Department, 8301 Professional Place, Landover, MD 20785-7223.
