Charles E. Bishop, 82, of Fitzgerald, died Thursday, November 5, 2009, at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held 2 P.M., Sunday, November 8, in the Evergreen Cemetery with the Floyd Peters officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Saturday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Bishop was born December 17, 1926 in Manchester, Georgia, to the late Albert and Eva Garrett Bishop. He moved to Fitzgerald in 1964 from Manchester. Mr. Bishop was a retired welder with CSX Railroad and was a former employee of the cotton mill in Manchester. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II, was an avid woodworker and of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Laura & Dan Greer of Fitzgerald, Ellen & Rob Thurman of Frisco, TX and Margaret & Dale Banning of Marshfield, MO; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Gaynell & Allen Self of Manchester. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred “Sue” Harper Bishop, a daughter, Julie Bishop Watson, 1 brother and 1 sister.
