James N. Posey, 75, of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 4 P.M. Thursday, November 5, at Dorminy Mill Baptist Church with Rev. Ike Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Posey was born April 15, 1934 in Haleyville, Alabama to the late Singleton and Winnie Mae Morrison Posey. He lived in Fitzgerald most of his life, graduating from Fitzgerald High School in 1955. He retired as Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War era. Mr. Posey was a former purchasing agent for Irwin EMC. He was a member, deacon and former Sunday school teacher at Dorminy Mill Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan L. Posey of Fitzgerald; children and their spouses, Deborah & John Poole, Lisa & Wiley Fletcher, Randy & Cathy Posey and Becky & Rob Garber all of Fitzgerald and Cindy & Ken Leighton of Ocilla; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; sister & brother-in-law, Geneva & Will Jordan of Gainesville, FL as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edsel & Travis Posey and two sisters, Mildred Willis and Tressie Haney.
