Obituary

GEORGE H. BARTLETT, a Hingham resident for the past 65 years, died on Monday, Nov. 2nd, 2009 at the Harbor House Nursing Center in Hingham. He was 87. Mr. Bartlett was born in Stillwater, New York where he was educated and spent his early life. During World War II, he served as a spotter with the 241st Army Coast Guard Artillery Group and was stationed at several locations on the South Shore including Hull, Humarock, Minot and the Black Rock Tower in Marshfield. After the war he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. Mr. Bartlett was an accomplished musician and was well known in the Hingham area for his piano and accordion playing at the Hingham Senior Center, local nursing homes and for the OPALS, a choral group comprised of senior citizens.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Natalie E. "Betty" (Beal) Bartlett of Hingham; and father of Carol A. Papineau and Russell G. Bartlett and his wife Andrea all of Hull. Grandfather of Rhonda O'Rourke, Dean Papineau, April Bartlett and Crystal Bartlett. Great Grandfather of Megan, Lisa and Michelle O'Rourke. Also survived by his sister Freda Butler and niece Jane Kerwin both of New York.

For many years, Mr. Bartlett and his wife Betty have been active members of the First Baptist Church, 85 Main St., Hingham, MA 02043 where his Memorial Service will be conducted on Friday, Nov. 6th at 11 AM.

Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory would be appreciated to the First Baptist Church.

The interment is private.
