Elmo D. Sears, 81 of Salem, NH, passed away Monday, Nov. 2 at the Holy Family Hospital, Methuen, MA, after a lengthy illness.
Elmo was born in Newark Valley, NY, where he grew up and attended schools, and attended from Oswego State College in Oswego, NY. He was employed by General Electric Co. in Johnson City, NY and Burlington, VT. He was in security and plant protection. He retired from Textron, formerly Avco in Wilmington, MA, after 26 years as supervisor of document accounting/security department.
Elmo resided is Salem, NH for 45 years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Salem, where he served as a deacon and belonged to the men’s fellowship group. He was recently honored as a 50 year member of the Spicket Lodge Masonic Lodge in Salem, NH. He was also a member of his home lodge in Newark Valley, NY.
Elmo enjoyed his family and was proud of his grandchildren. He liked keeping his cars in order, and especially liked country music. He enjoyed listening to old radio programs, and was a life long New York Yankees fan.
He was predeceased by his parents: D. Elmo and Lula Sears.
He is survived by his Wife of nearly 55 years: Betty (Stohner) Sears of Salem, NH
2 Daughters: Kathleen & her Husband Manuel Mendonca of Salem, NH
Mary Ellen & her Husband Dr. Gregory Lockhart of East Greenwich, RI
Sister: Joyce & her Husband David Leonard of Newark Valley, NY
Grandchildren: Phillip, Michael, and Kenneth Mendonca of Salem, NH. Bradley and Karen Lockhart of East Greenwich, RI, Several cousins, nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 7 at 10 AM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, Salem, NH. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH. Calling hours will be held Friday, Nov.6 from 4-8 PM at the Funeral Home,
