Obituary

GLOUCESTER: William J. “Bill” Porter, 62, of 4 Rockland Street died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, November 1, 2009 following a brief illness. He was the husband of Sharon A. (Cabral) Porter.
Born in Gloucester on February 15, 1947, he was the son of the late Eleanor S. (Flanders) Porter Cooney and Roland Porter. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and attended Gloucester public schools.
Bill had been a fish cutter for many years at the former Mass Coastal and North Atlantic Seafoods. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards and loved country music and the oldies. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife of twenty-seven years, he is survived by his children, Lisa, wife of James “Slim” Hudson, Brenda (Porter), wife of Brendan O’Leary, Kelly, wife of Frank Tocco, Elliott, husband of Julie (Strople) Morris, Laura and Crystal Porter, grandchildren, Cody, Nicole and Justin Tocco, Emily and Sarah Murray and Connor and Mia O’Leary. He also leaves his sisters, Jean, wife of Frank Palazola and Marion (Porter) Greige, his cousin, Roger Porter and friends, Donny Babine, Joe and Bianca Tocco and many in-laws. He was also predeceased by his son, David Porter, brothers, Roland Porter and Leon Wallace and mother-in-law, Edna Cabral.
Visiting hours will be held in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester on Wednesday from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment services will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the family.
