Rose M. (Monteiro) Pires, 97, of New Bedford died Sunday November 1, 2009 after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Charles J. Pires.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Alfredo and Guilhermina (daSilva) Monteiro, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mrs. Pires was the first foster grandparent in New Bedford. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School.
Survivors include three children, Robert C. Pires and his wife Stephanie of Newport, RI, Marcy R. Haddocks and her husband Richard of Marietta, GA, and Lisa M. Pires and her partner Renee Dumas of New Bedford; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Charles, Manuel, Jaime, and Isabel Monteiro.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 AM at St. Lawrence Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
