Whitman – Nancy A. (Wright) Hughes 82, a life long resident of Whitman died Monday November 2 after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife for 61 years of Richard H. Hughes.
Born in Boston and raised in Whitman she was the daughter of the late Harold R. and Ada I. (Spooner) Wright and a graduate of Whitman High Class of 1944.
Nancy was a graduate of Quincy City Hospital School of Nursing and worked for over 30 years as registered nurse, retiring from Brockton Hospital.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Whitman for 72 years, and was active in many groups and organizations at the church.
In addition to her husband Richard she is survived by her loving children Richard Hughes and his wife Joan of Pembroke, Brian S. Hughes and his wife Donna of Whitman, Kevin Hughes and his wife Amanda of St. Louis, MO, Douglas Hughes and his wife Brenda of Halifax, and Deborah Hughes of Abington, her sisters Priscilla Linehan of CT and Roberta Harriman of CA. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her services will be held Thursday November 5 at 11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday November 4 from 4-7 PM. Donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
