Maryann J. (Brand) Smith, 77, of Iron Street, Ledyard joined her love ones in Heaven on Thursday after being stricken at her home.
She was born in Newark, NJ on March 15, 1932 the daughter of Charles A. and Mary Rose (Nasti) Brand.
Her first husband, Leonard J. Prue, Jr died in 1968. On June 16, 1969 she married George A. Smith who died September 1, 2008.
In earlier years, Maryann was employed as a cashier at Holdridge’s Farm Nursery. She was alos employed as a nurse’s aide for several years.
Known for her keen wit, she will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who took great pride in her family. She was also an avid New York Yankees fan.
She is survived by her children, Leonard J. Prue III of Westerly, Susan M. Steele of Groton, and Patricia A. Nott of Ledyard; her brother, Charles Brand of Mystic, 16 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Monday from 6-8pm. Her funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday at 10:30am with burial following at Elm Grove Cemetery.
