Clinton H. "Smitty" Smith, Jr., 73, of New Bedford died October 29, 2009 unexpectedly at home.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Clinton H. and Gladys R. (Merrick) Smith, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Clint was formerly employed by New England Telephone Company for many years until retirement.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of Andrews-Dahill Post 1531 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Lee Ann Walsh and her husband Douglas, Stacey Hathaway and her husband Blaine and Kerri Smith and her companion Doug Souza, all of New Bedford; 2 grandchildren, Devan and Jason; his companion, Martha Penler of Fairhaven; his sister-in-law, Margaret Smith of New Bedford; several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Evelyn Aguiar, Patricia Carreiro, Katherine Sherman, William Smith and Carl Smith.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 1st at 9:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday, November 2nd from 4-7 PM.
