Barbara Adeline (Hazen) Bowes, a resident of Medford for more than 40 years and formerly of Somerville, died at the Epoch Nursing Care Center in Melrose on Wednesday morning, October 28, 2009. She was 74 years old.
Born in Medford, Massachusetts, on November 12, 1934, she was the beloved daughter of the late Wilbur M. and Florence (App) Hazen. Barbara had been an active member of the Somerville Cribbage League and Somerville High Class Reunion Committee for 1952. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, baking, crafting, Foxwoods and playing cribbage. She was a resident of the Weldon Manor Senior Building in Medford for many years and was active in many tenant functions. Above all, she was devoted to her family and many special friends. She will be sorely missed by her daughter and son-in-law; Patricia (Patti) A. and her husband Anthony Tufo of Peabody, longtime companion of Domenic Picardo of Medford, three sisters; Margaret Hazen and Elizabeth “Betty” Dillon, both of N.Y., Florence Picard of Hudson, one brother; Robert “Bobby” Hazen of N.J., cherished grandmother of Nicole, Brianna, Kristina, Robert and Michael and many nieces and nephews. Barbara was also the mother of the late Diana M. Spano and sister of the late William “Billy” Hazen. Her funeral was from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Saturday, October 31, 2009, at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 AM. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Visiting hours were Friday, October 30, 2009, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
