WESTPORT…William J. Rielly, Sr., 79, of Westport died peacefully on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Cynthia J. (Arruda) Rielly.
He was the son of the late Thomas A. and Margaret A. (Gillen) Rielly. Born in Boston he had been a resident of Westport since 1970. Mr. Rielly was U.S. Navy veteran serving his country in the Korean War. He had been employed by the U. S. Customs Service for over 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was the past commander of the American Legion Post #166 in Fairhaven and a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 7 sons: Michael P., Thomas A., William J. Jr., Timothy J., Sean A., Patrick K., and Matthew F. Rielly; 1 granddaughter; 2 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late: Sr. Marion Rielly, SND, Thomas A. Rielly, Jr. and Carleen Rielly.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 9:00 A.M. from the POTTER FUNERAL HOME, 81 Reed Road, Westport followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Interment with military honors will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
Calling hours will be Wednesday 5-8 P.M.
