Devoted father of Paul Rivera Illingsworth of NH, Justin and Jessica Rivera, both of Wilmington. Brother of Gladys Rivera – Rogers of Malden and Angel Rivera of FL. Son-in-law of Maxwell and Virginia Parsons of Everett. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Dello Russo - Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 374 Main St., WILMINGTON Friday, October 30th, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Mr. Jose M. Rivera, age 62, of Wilmington passed away suddenly, October 24th. He was the beloved husband of Judy L. (Parsons) Rivera. Mr. Rivera was born in Coamo, Puerto Rico and was the son of the late Apolinar and Sixta Olga (Colon) Rivera.
Mr. Rivera, known as "Mickey" to his family and friends was raised and educated in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School. He was retired from the City of Malden Fire Department where he last served as the Superintendent of Fire Alarm and worked for nearly thirty years. Mr. Rivera was also a United States Army Veteran honorably serving during the Vietnam War. Together with his wife and children, they moved from Malden to Wilmington thirteen years ago. Mostly devoted to his family, Mr. Rivera enjoyed being involved in his children’s activities and in his leisure time he enjoyed playing golf with his friends, camping and traveling with his family.
In addition to his beloved wife Judy, Mr. Rivera is survived by his children, Paul Rivera- Illingsworth of New Hampshire, Justin and Jessica Rivera both of Wilmington. He is also survived by his sister, Gladys Rivera-Rogers of Malden, brother, Angel Rivera of Florida, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Maxwell and Virginia Parsons of Everett. He is further survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
