Obituary


TIVERTON, R.I. — Edward M. Lawton III, age 58 years, of Tiverton, died at home on Saturday, October 24, 2009, after a period of declining health.

The son of Priscilla (Whitney) Lawton of Tiverton and the late Lt. Col. (USAF) James B. Lawton, he was born in New Bedford and lived in Dartmouth much of his life until moving to Tiverton in recent years.

A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he was employed for many years by the Dartmouth Department of Public Works.

An avid fresh water fishing enthusiast, Ed was an easy going and helpful person, enjoyed reading and creative writing, gardening, had a dry sense of humor and was helpful in polishing the church brass.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother, Whitney D. Lawton; and sisters, Lisa Cabral, Jami Chace and Nina Borges; and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was the brother of the late Peter, Bradford and Jeremy Lawton.

A Memorial Service will take place at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 1956 Main Road, Tiverton, R.I.

Remembrances may be made in his name to the memorial fund of the church.
