Rens F. “Moe” Hayes, Jr, 66, of Mansfield passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday October 20, 2009. He was the beloved husband of Janet M. (Kneeland) Hayes to whom he was married on February 23, 1963.
Born in Boston, MA on January 16, 1943 he was a dear son of Ann (Neely) Hayes of Walpole and the late Rens F. Hayes, Sr.
Moe grew up in the West Roxbury section of Boston until moving to Walpole where he was a 1961 graduate of Walpole High School.
Mr. Hayes was a Self-Employed Carpenter and was the proud owner of the R.F. Hayes Construction Co. in Mansfield, a business he had operated for the past 44 years.
A resident of Mansfield for the past 44 years, he was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. Mr. Hayes was a hard working man and family was the focal point of his life.
In addition to his beloved wife and mother he is survived by his devoted sons Rens F. Hayes, III and his wife Joan of Norton, Michael J. Hayes, Sr. and his wife Karen of Foxboro, Eric S. Hayes and his former wife Susan of Mansfield, Brandon G. Hayes, Sr. and his wife Kristin of Attleboro and Sean M. Tipton of Norton. He was the brother of Ronald Hayes and his wife Tracy of Foxboro, Roger Hayes and his wife Susan of Norton and the late Richard Hayes, Robert Hayes and Barbara Tipton. He was the adoring grandfather of Rens Hayes, IV, Lauren Hayes, Brianna Hayes, Bryan Carew, Michael Hayes, Jr. Danielle Hayes, Brandon Hayes, Jr., Nicholas Hayes and Julia Hayes. He is also survived by his dear friend Jaynemarie Connolly of Mansfield and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday October 24th at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday October 23rd from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Hayes’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice 3 Edgewater Drive Norwood, MA 02062.
